Two vintage pieces of Southern pottery: 1) A hand-thrown vase in a burnt orange glaze, made by Jugtown Pottery, impressed with the company's "Jugtown Ware" logo, 3 1/2" high x 4 1/4" diameter, some roughness to rim, interior of the rim with a 3/4-inch chip, most of which is not visible from the exterior. Jugtown Pottery was founded in 1917 and is located near Seagrove, North Carolina. 2) A hand-thrown candlestick with wax cup, in burnt-orange glaze, made by Cole Pottery, impressed "A.R. Cole Pottery" and "Sanford, N.C." on the base, 8" high, 3 1/2" diameter. Arthur Ray Cole (1892-1974) was part of one of North Carolina's most prolific potting dynasties; members of the Cole family have been producing wares in the central part of the state for more than 200 years.
