Believed to be extremely early Bastine Pottery, this hand-turned, undated set consists of five items: a bowl and four matching vessels having a waisted shape (possibly handleless cups), all five with a similar hand-decorated cobalt design. The bottom of each is hand-incised in what looks like "bastine" in lowercase script, although the mark is hard to read. The set was found in Noblesville, Indiana, about 20 years ago. Size: bowl 3" high x 4 1/2" diameter; others 3 5/8" to 4" high. Rim chip to two of the vessels, a third with a base chip, and the fourth being badly cracked. The bowl is in excellent condition. Dan and Sherry Bastine started the pottery in 1978 near Noblesville, Indiana. Sherry continued the business for a few years after Dan's death in 1999, but the pottery eventually closed, with the remaining products and equipment sold at auction in 2006.
