Hand-thrown redware pitcher in burnt umber glaze, the base inscribed "Wigwam / Dudley T. Fisher Jr. / 1931," 7 1/2" high, the flared waist approximately 5 1/2" diameter, good condition, chip to end of spout, a few very small glaze nicks, minor roughness to edge of base. Fisher (1890-1951) was a newspaper cartoonist who worked for the Columbus Dispatch (Ohio). He is best known for "Right Around Home," a cartoon showing numerous characters in a full-page panel viewed from an elevated angle. The comic was nationally syndicated from 1938 to 1965 (drawn by Fisher's assistant following his death) and spun off "Myrtle," a daily cartoon in conventional form, in 1942. The Wigwam, built in the 1920s and originally a private hunting cabin, was transformed over the years into a complex of buildings used as an event center by local businesses, including the Columbus Dispatch.
