American estate briar pipe. The Riviera line was first introduced by the Dr. Grabow Pipe Co. in 1957. The name was famously chosen as part of a series inspired by classic luxury automobiles of the era, such as the Buick Riviera. This specific piece features a classic Billiard or Pot shape with a straight shank and a black vulcanite or plastic tapered stem. The bowl is crafted from Mediterranean briar wood, highly favored in pipe-making for its superior heat resistance, durability, and moisture absorption. See pics
