The 1871 Prince Edward Island One Cent coin is a historic, pre-confederation large copper cent that was issued as the colony's only independent coinage just two years before joining the Canadian Confederation Design: Designed by Leonard Charles Wyon. The obverse features Queen Victoria with the inscription "VICTORIA QUEEN 1871". The reverse displays a large oak tree (symbolizing England) sheltering three smaller saplings (representing PEI's three counties) above the Latin motto "PARVA SUB INGENTI" ("The small beneath the great"). Composition: 95% copper, 4% tin, and 1% zinc.Specifications: Weighs 5.67 grams, measures 25.40 mm in diameter, and has a plain edge. Mint: Struck at the Heaton Mint in England, though it lacks an "H" mint mark
