Artemio Poma Gutierrez (Peruvian, b. 1973) Master Quinua Ceramic. Recognized among the leading contemporary masters of Quinua ceramic, Artemio Poma Gutierrez has played a significant role in preserving and elevating one of Peru's most celebrated artistic traditions. In recognition of his outstanding contribution to Peruvian culture, he was honored by the Ministry of Culture of Peru as a Meritorious Personality of Culture for safeguarding and promoting the ceramic heritage of Quinua. This exceptional set of three monumental ceramic musicians beautifully captures the festive spirit of traditional Andean celebrations. Each figure is individually hand-modeled and represents a member of a ceremonial folk ensemble performing ancestral wind instruments, including a trumpet, traditional flute, and large ceremonial horn. Their elongated proportions create an elegant sculptural presence while emphasizing the rhythmic movement and musical harmony shared between the three performers. Entirely handcrafted using traditional Quinua techniques, each sculpture is decorated with finely executed floral motifs, geometric ornamentation, and delicate hand-painted details inspired by the decorative vocabulary of Ayacucho ceramics. The carefully balanced cream and terracotta palette, together with the intricate surface decoration, highlights the remarkable precision and artistic discipline for which Artemio Poma is internationally recognized. Beyond their decorative beauty, these sculptures celebrate the importance of music within Andean cultural life. Festivals, religious celebrations, harvest ceremonies, and community gatherings have long been accompanied by traditional musicians whose performances symbolize unity, continuity, and the transmission of cultural identity across generations. Artemio Poma transforms this living tradition into a refined sculptural composition that conveys both elegance and authenticity. The ceramic tradition of Quinua has been recognized as part of Peru's National Cultural Heritage. Works by the artist have previously been presented through auctions organized by the Museo de Arte de Lima (MALI). ARTIST Artemio Poma Gutierrez is a distinguished master ceramist from Quinua, Ayacucho, Peru.
