Frank Tenney Johnson (American, 1874-1939) Oil on canvas depicting a Western scene with a cowboy standing beside a wagon and oxen in an open landscape. Signed and dated lower right. Framed. Frank Tenney Johnson was an American painter known for his scenes of the Old West. He became especially recognized for his atmospheric Western compositions and for popularizing the so-called "moonlight technique," which captured dramatic lighting and the quiet mood of frontier life.
