Illustrated with Twelve Engravings from the Designs of John Flaxman...from the Last Corrected London Edition.NY: D. Appleton & Company, 1868.Beautifully designed leatherbound Victorian era copy of Dante's classic with fancy gilt and embossed relief decor on the covers, the spine with raised bands, gilt title, as shown. Illustrated Flaxman plates throughout. Externally in decent shape with some small wear points at the extremities of the corners and edges of the spine and boards, but the gilt still nice and bright. Hinges intact; text slightly foxed here and there, bound firm, endpapers and pastedowns marbled. This book measures 4 1/2" by 7" and contains 587 gilt edged pages.
