Clipped planchet — A curved or straight section missing from the coin where the blank was mis-punched. Blakesley Effect — Opposite the clip, the rim should be weak, flat, or incomplete due to disrupted metal flow. This is the single strongest indicator of authenticity. Metal Flow / Distortion — The design near the clip should show stretching or distortion, not sharp post-mint cutting. Correct Curvature — Curved clips must match the radius of the blanking punch used by the Mint; irregular jagged shapes often indicate damage.
