The 1893 "Isabella" Commemorative Silver Quarter is a historic U.S. Mint coin, notable as the first United States commemorative quarter dollar and the first U.S. coin to feature a real woman (Queen Isabella of Spain) rather than an allegorical figure like Liberty. Issued for the World's Columbian Exposition in Chicago, it is a highly prized key issue among classic silver commemorative coin collectors. Mintage: 40,000 struck, but 15,809 were melted, leaving a low final net mintage of 24,214 pieces. Composition: 90% Silver, 10% Copper. Designer: Chief Engraver Charles E. Barber designed both sides. Obverse: Features a side-profile bust of Queen Isabella of Spain with the date 1893.
