The 1854 Type 2 "Indian Princess Head" Gold Dollar represents one of the most historically significant and shortest-lived design subtypes in the entire history of Pre-1933 United States gold coinage. Introduced to solve striking defects present in the original Type 1 design, the Type 2 motif was minted for a brief window from 1854 to 1856, making high-grade, certified examples exceedingly scarce and heavily sought after by collectors.
