Craftsman Hardened Stainless 6 Inch Dial Caliper in Case, marked 40185 A Craftsman 6-inch dial caliper, model number 40185, manufactured in Japan. The instrument is constructed from hardened stainless steel and features a rack-and-pinion mechanism that translates linear movement to the dial indicator. The dial face displays the Sears logo and Craftsman brand name, with graduations in .001-inch increments. One full revolution of the needle represents 0.100 inches. The main beam is engraved with a linear inch scale divided into 0.1-inch increments and is marked Made in Japan. The tool is designed for internal, external, depth, and step measurements. It includes a thumb-operated adjustment wheel and a locking screw on the sliding carriage. The caliper is housed in a grey plastic fitted case with a foam lining.
