A substantial late 19th-century American walnut bookcase cabinet of architectural two-part form, featuring an upper display case with a broad projecting cornice above two tall glazed doors framed by rounded molded corners. The doors open to a plank-backed interior fitted with adjustable wooden shelves, providing generous display space for books, china, or decorative objects. The lower cabinet is arranged with two smaller drawers above one full-width drawer, each fitted with ornate brass bail pulls and centered keyholes, over a pair of boldly paneled cupboard doors secured with later surface-mounted hardware. Rich walnut veneers, molded drawer fronts, chamfered paneling, and restrained classical detailing lend the piece a handsome Victorian presence, while the rear retains broad hand-planed plank construction and old chalk inventory markings that contribute to its authentic period character. The cabinet displays scattered scuffs, scratches, finish rubbing, small nicks, age-related separations, staining and wear to the backboards, and general surface wear throughout.
