Don Hovie is a highly respected, master wildlife artist and woodcarver based in California, recognized for his incredibly detailed, life-like sculptures of North American birds. Deeply embedded in the rich tradition of Western wildlife art, Hovie is a prominent member and leader within the Pacific Flyway Decoy Association. Through this organization and his collaboration with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, he has spent decades preserving the heritage of waterfowl decoy carving and educating future generations of wildlife artists. Artistry & Technique Unlike modern carvers who rely on pre-fabricated foam or plastic blanks, Hovie is a traditionalist who carves entirely from scratch out of raw blocks of wood.
