This appears to be an early metal safety can for gasoline, kerosene, or other flammable liquids, probably dating from about the 1930s–1950s. The spring-loaded cap helped keep the opening closed and reduce spills and fumes. Because it is heavily worn, rusty, and appears to be missing its pouring attachment: * Likely local-auction value: $20–$40 * Retail/decorative value: $40–$65 * If marked by Eagle, Justrite, Protectoseal, or another desirable maker: possibly $60–$100
