Samuel Adrian "Slingin' Sammy" Baugh was a pioneering American football quarterback, punter, and defensive back who revolutionized the sport by turning the forward pass into a primary offensive weapon. Playing 16 seasons for the Washington Redskins (now the Commanders) from 1937 to 1952, Baugh was a charter member of the inaugural Pro Football Hall of Fame class of 1963. He is widely recognized as one of the greatest and most versatile athletes in the history of the National Football League (NFL).
