Walter Fenner "Buck" Leonard was a legendary American first baseman who spent nearly his entire professional career with the Homestead Grays of the Negro Leagues. Widely regarded as one of the greatest first basemen and pure hitters in baseball history, Leonard paired with Josh Gibson as the "Thunder Twins"—the Negro Leagues' equivalent to Lou Gehrig and Babe Ruth—to power the Grays' dominant 1930s and 1940s dynasty. In 1972, Leonard and Gibson became the first Negro Leagues position players inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame.
