Muhammad Ali (born Cassius Marcellus Clay Jr.; January 17, 1942 – June 3, 2016) was an American professional boxer, philanthropist, and social activist who is widely regarded as the greatest heavyweight boxer of all time. Nicknamed "The Greatest," he transcended the world of sports to become a global cultural icon. Floyd Patterson (January 4, 1935 – May 11, 2006) was a legendary American professional boxer who made history as the youngest fighter to win the world heavyweight title at age 21. He also secured his legacy by becoming the first heavyweight to ever lose and regain first heavyweight to ever lose and regain the undisputed championship. Known as the "Gentle Gladiator," Patterson was celebrated as much for his exceptional hand speed and innovative fighting style as he was for his deep humility, sportsmanship, and civil rights activism. Muhammad Ali and Floyd Patterson fought twice during their legendary heavyweight boxing careers, with Ali winning both bouts by technical knockout (TKO). Their rivalry was deeply personal and underscored by the intense political and social tensions of the 1960s.
