Van Buren Hard Times token is one of the most famous anti-Van Buren satirical pieces of the 1837–1841 period. It depicts Van Buren being literally weighed on a balance scale and judged as insufficient. This piece is a satirical anti–Van Buren token produced during the 1840 presidential campaign, attacking Van Buren’s handling of the Panic of 1837 and contrasting him with Harrison.
