The 1921 Alabama Centennial Silver Half Dollar is one of the most historically important classic U.S. commemoratives — notable for its firsts, its low mintages, and its strong collector demand. It commemorates Alabama’s 100th anniversary of statehood, was designed by Laura Gardin Fraser (the first woman to design a U.S. coin), and is the first U.S. coin to depict a living person — Governor Thomas E.
