A 1917-S Buffalo Nickel with a "Full Horn" is a highly sought-after semi-key date coin due to its low mintage of 4,193,000 and a notorious design flaw. On Buffalo Nickels, the bison's horn is located at the highest point of the reverse design, causing it to wear away first during circulation. Finding a circulated 1917-S (which is rarer than the Denver issue) with a completely defined, full horn typically elevates the coin to Very Fine (VF-20 or VF-30) or Extremely Fine (EF-40) condition, making it much more valuable than typical flat-horn "Good" or "Very Good" specimens.
