Antique Scorched Bamboo Side Table

A charming late Victorian bamboo occasional table, likely English, circa 1880-1900, in the Aesthetic Movement style popular during the height of the bamboo furniture craze. The rectangular top is fitted with an embossed and gilt-tooled leather insert, featuring a decorative tooled border framing a warm, well-worn center — the kind of rich patina that only comes from genuine age and use. The frame is crafted from tortoiseshell-finish (scorched/mottled) bamboo, with the characteristic dark-mottled "tortoiseshell" burning technique on the legs and trim. A lower tier features a woven cane/rattan shelf, adding both storage and visual lightness to the design.
