The 1901-S $5 Gold Liberty coin is part of the Liberty Head Half Eagle series (1839–1908), designed by Christian Gobrecht, the third Chief Engraver of the U.S. Mint. The obverse features a left-facing Lady Liberty wearing a coronet inscribed “LIBERTY”, surrounded by thirteen stars, with the date “1901” below. The reverse displays a heraldic eagle clutching an olive branch and arrows, with the motto “IN GOD WE TRUST” and inscriptions “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA” and “FIVE D.”
