The 1909 $5 Gold Indian is an iconic example of early 20th-century U.S. coinage, designed by Bela Lyon Pratt. Struck with a distinctive incuse (sunken) design, this coin features a left-facing Native American chief in full headdress on the obverse and a perched eagle on the reverse, creating a unique and sculptural aesthetic unlike any other circulating U.S. gold coin.
