Six traditional French-Canadian hand-carved and painted wooden maritime figures utilizing flat-plane carving techniques. The lot features various nautical characters, including a sea captain, sailors, and a peg-leg pirate. All figures are mounted on plain wooden block bases and exhibit age appropriate surface wear. 3 signed (Tom Hannah, Hannah Canada & illegible 1933) Smallest 3 1/3 in Largest 12 in Collector's Note: Tom Hannah was a Canadian folk artist and woodcarver active in LaSalle, Quebec, from the 1930s to the 1950s. Working alongside his brothers Charles and Gerald, he carved hand-painted, flat-plane statuettes from pine and basswood. His whimsical subjects frequently included sailors, fishermen, and habitant figures.
