1970s Cylindrical stoneware vase featuring hand-painted blue and brown bird, butterfly, and floral motifs. Signed on base by Ken Edwards' El Palomar Pottery Studio with fish mark. Made in Tlaquepaque, Mexico 7 x 2.75 in Collector's Note: Established in 1964 in Tlaquepaque, Jalisco, by renowned ceramicist Ken Edwards and collaborating artists, El Palomar revolutionized regional production by introducing and perfecting high-quality, high-fired stoneware in Mexico. Ken Edwards: Born in the U.S. in 1926, Edwards was an acclaimed ceramicist and innovator who studied art in Kansas City and Japan. Migrating to Mexico in the mid-20th century, he settled in Jalisco and founded renowned stoneware workshops including El Palomar and Ken Edwards Stoneware in Tonalá. Edwards introduced high-temperature kilns to the region, blending traditional Mexican folk art with Japanese-inspired design. Marking: The fish motif serves as an individual artist signature rather than belonging to a single master designer. At the Ken Edwards / El Palomar studio in Mexico, a team of artisan-painters each utilized specific animal, insect, or fish symbols as their personal signatures alongside the studio mark.
