Art Deco 8-day folding travel clock retailed by Henry Birks & Sons with a Swiss Made Movement. Circa 1930s. Features a textured brown leather case, square dial with Arabic numerals, and sub-seconds. Engraved to the reverse with Montreal provenance of Stanley Clarke, prominent shipping executive and resident of Le Château on Sherbrooke Street. Approx. 4.25 x 4.25 x 1 in. Collector's Note: Stanley Desmond Clarke (1917–2006) was a prominent Montreal business leader and decorated World War II veteran. Serving as a Lieutenant-Colonel in the Royal Canadian Electrical and Mechanical Engineers, he later joined his family’s maritime enterprise, Clarke Steamship Co. Ltd. (Clarke Transport). As President from 1958 to 1982, he became an industry pioneer, introducing transatlantic container shipping and computerization to Canadian transport. He resided at the prestigious Le Château apartments, located at 1321 Sherbrooke Street West in Montreal’s exclusive Golden Square Mile.
