Circa 1780-1839 .50 Caliber Smoothbore Gentlemen's Coat Pistol, 6 1/4" Barrel, Fair Condition This is an authentic, hand-crafted European gentleman's traveling coat or belt pistol dated circa 1780-1839, not a reproduction. It has a round internal smooth bore and a brass nose cap. The two-position locking trigger and intricate scroll engraving are present throughout; although heavily pitted, most should be readable if carefully cleaned by an antique restoration professional. This pistol has a one-inch nose band and hand-forged screws. It is missing its brass wrist plate and left side plate, and although it has a period-appropriate brass replacement trigger guard, the original was no doubt well used in its day and was replaced, as indicated by the vacant extended wood inlay area that extends farther than the existing guard. This pistol still has an original worn flint stone, pinch-screwed between a piece of leather as was common to reduce spark flare-up. The hammer/trigger action mechanism on this pistol still works perfectly. This is black powder only, and no FFL is required in most states. (500644) (GSCB33)
