Confederate Civil War Richmond High Hump Rifled Musket Marked C.S. Richmond, VA 1862 on side plate. .58 caliber. Barrel measures 32 3/4", barrel. Working action. Metal and wood are in good condition. Antique. In April 1861, the Confederate Army led by Thomas Jonathan Jackson captured the Union-held town of Harper's Ferry in western Virginia, and captured the machinery used to manufacture Springfield Model 1855 muskets. Confederate troops captured 33,993 black walnut stocks with the machinery. The machinery and stocks were shipped to Winchester, Virginia, where they were transferred by wagons for delivery to Richmond Virginia.
