Serial number 192550 places the receiver's manufacture at approximately 1920. The rifle retains its rotary magazine and 0-5 cartridge counter, and the assembly numbers on the barrel and forend match, indicating the .410 barrel and forend were fitted together. The .410 barrel is used as a single-shot, as the rotary magazine does not feed .410 shotshells. Savage offered .410 barrel options for the Model 99 Takedown, making these firearms considerably less common than their standard rifle-caliber counterparts. While the receiver originally left the factory with a rifle barrel, the original chambering cannot be determined with certainty from the serial number alone, as Savage did not encode caliber information in the serial number and surviving factory records are limited. Features include a blued steel finish, walnut stock and forend, factory takedown configuration for convenient transport, adjustable tang-mounted peep sight, blade front sight, rotary magazine, and cartridge counter. The Savage Model 99 is widely regarded as one of the finest American lever-action designs, and .410-equipped takedown examples are seldom encountered on today's collector market. Condition Good vintage condition with honest wear consistent with age. The walnut stock and forend exhibit scattered handling marks, scratches, and finish wear accumulated over decades of use. The metal finish shows thinning on the receiver along with light edge wear and handling marks, while the barrel retains a pleasing appearance. The takedown mechanism appears complete, and the action cycles smoothly based on handling. Overall, this is a scarce and desirable Savage Model 99 configuration with excellent collector appeal.
