Antique spring-loaded brass lancet, used for blood-letting during the Civil War era. Features a mechanism to release a blade designed to penetrate the skin. Housed in its original worn leather case measuring 3x1-3/4x1 inch. No visible maker's marks are present on the piece. The brass and leather show wear consistent with age and use.
