This is in good, shooting condition with an ocatagon barrel and case hardened receiver. The Winchester Model 1873, famously known as "The Gun That Won the West," is a legendary lever-action rifle originally chambered in the potent .44-40 centerfire cartridge. Introduced as Winchester's first centerfire repeater, it allowed cowboys to use the same ammunition for both their lever-action rifle and their revolver.Historical OverviewManufactured between 1873 and 1923, Winchester produced approximately 720,000 Model 1873 rifles. The steel-framed 1873 offered a massive upgrade in durability and velocity over its predecessor, the Model 1866. Standard variants featured a 24-inch barrel with a magazine capacity of up to 15 rounds, a 20-inch carbine version, and less common 30-inch musket styles.Value & Modern ProductionDue to heavy use in harsh conditions, surviving antique Model 1873 rifles vary wildly in condition. Depending on provenance, finish, and overall condition, historical originals can fetch anywhere from $2,900 to upwards of $6,000 or more.
