THE COLUMBIA BANK - WASHINGTON, D.C. | $3, Oct. 28, 1852 | Haxby DC-195-G4 | PMG 55 About Uncirculated A fully ISSUED note - hand-signed by the Cashier and President and countersigned by the Treasurer - where the great majority of surviving Columbia Bank notes are unsigned remainders that never left the vault. Benjamin Franklin's portrait anchors the lower left, with a seated allegorical figure and bold ornate "3" counter at center, engraved by Danforth, Bald & Co. Washington, D.C. is one of the hardest jurisdictions to fill in obsolete collecting - far fewer banks issued here than in the surrounding states. Bright paper, bold ink, strong signatures, fully original. Perfect companion $1 note in lot 308 following.
