Georges Carpentier was a French boxing champion and war hero who starred in the 1920 silent adventure film The Wonder Man. The movie premiered on May 29, 1920, at the historic Hotel Astor in New York City under the auspices of the American Legion. In the film, Carpentier plays a French boxer who gets swept up in an espionage plot. While he was widely known as a pugilist, his acting performance drew notable crowds during his visit to the United States.
