Harold Newton Florida Highwaymen Original Painting

Updated August 7, 2026

Harold Newton Florida Highwaymen Original Painting | This is an incredible oil painting by Harold Newton of the Florida Highwaymen. The Florida Highwaymen were a group of 26 African-American landscape artists from Fort Pierce, Florida from the mid 1950's-80's. Barred from showing their work in art galleries in the Jim Crow era south, the highwaymen sold their paintings door-to-door or from the trunks of their cars, earning them the name The Florida Highwaymen. A truly incredible piece of history! The frame this painting is in was also built by Harold Newton. It appears to be made out of wall trim pieces. The painting itself is in good condition for it's age, with the exception of a few small chips, shown in photos. It could probably stand to be professionally cleaned.
