This is a Chinese carved, layered lacquer plate, often in a cream-colored tone, using modern lacquer layering techniques rather than similar imperial-era examples. Features a large central peony medallion with layered petals and detailed stamens (a grid-like center typical of traditional rendering), surrounded by intricate foliage. The outer border ring repeats peonies and stylized leaves. Carving shows deep relief with good depth. The peony symbolizes prosperity, honor, and good fortune. Condition: Very good, intact with sharp, detailed carving with only minor dust in crevices consistent with age/use. Age: 1950-70 Origin: China - Guangdong/Canton Dimension: 10" Diameter
