An amazingly elaborate hand carved Chinese wood frame from the early 19th century that is so over the top. The carving is deep and well rounded. A work of art not to be made today. A lightweight but tight-grained wood has been carved by hand with scenes of a noblemen procession and a mandarin sitting in his cart. There is a myriad of other elements such as birds, pine trees, squirrels, bats, phoenix, and the flaming pearl at the very top. The carvings are deep and well rounded. Most of the decoration is pierced. Even the double frames show fine decorative carving. Although it was most likely created to frame small portraits, it could be used today as a shadow box to display small items. MEASUREMENTS 10" (25.4 cm) wide x 11 ¼" (28.6 cm) tall x 1" (2.5 cm) thick. Weighs 11.7 oz (325 g) CONDITION There are damages to the carvings. The phoenix areas are missing bits, as well as some small chips in other places. These losses are not very noticeable due the elaborate design. An amazing work of the Chinese carver that will not be reproduced. Period: Early 19th Century Origin: China Materials: Wood Dimensions: 11.25"W × 1"D × 10"H
