A Vaughn hit and miss engine is a specialized, single-cylinder, four-stroke gasoline engine built by Vaughan Motor Works and manufactured by Harsch Machine Works)in Portland, Oregon, starting around 1909. It was custom-designed to power portable timber drag saws used in Pacific Northwest logging rather than general farm chores. As shown this setup is in need of restoration.
