This lot consists of a hand Painting on paper in the style of the painter Francisco ZUNIGA (1912-1998). (San José de Costa Rica, 1912 - Mexico, 1998) Costa Rican sculptor and painter, based in Mexico. He learned the trade in the workshop of his father, Manuel Zúñiga Rodríguez, author of religious images and continuer of a family tradition of carvers and sculptors. In 1927 he enrolled in the School of Fine Arts in his hometown, where he briefly received drawing lessons. In the period 1928-1934 he worked as an assistant in the family religious sculpture workshop. In 1935 he won first prize at the Sculpture Salon in Costa Rica, with an imposing stone sculpture that he called Maternity. Seduced by Mexico, he took up residence in that country in 1936. He studied design with Rodríguez Lozano and sculpture with Oliverio Martínez, with whom he collaborated to create the innovative sculptural groups of the monument to the Mexican Revolution. In 1938 he was appointed professor at the "La Esmeralda" School of Sculpture and Direct Carving, directed by Guillermo Ruiz, its founder. <br> <br> Image Size: 10 3/4 by 7 3/4 inches.
