Rare historical early charter date 1803 stock No. 568, Company of the Downingstown, Ephrata and Harrisburg Turnpike Road, John Whitehill of Cumberland County. One share. Hand dated April the first, 1805. Chartered in 1803 in Pennsylvania, the private turnpike company issued shares to local investors to fund road construction and maintenance before public roads and modern highways (like U.S. Route 322) replaced private toll systems
