2 Civil War era Southern Cotton Trade stamped letters signed by Charles Corey Taber to cotton mill owner H. L. Aldrich, Providence. May 1865 & December 1866. Prominent New York City cotton magnate & founder of the cotton exchange, Charles Corey Taber of C. C. & H. M. Taber Cotton Brokers. CHARLES COREY TABER(1821 -- 1892)· Founder of the Cotton Exchange in NYC and post-war Manhattan real estate developer. Henry Morehouse Taber(1825 -- 1897)· President of C. C. And H. M. Taber, cotton brokers appointed trustee of the Common Schools of the 15th Ward in 1875 and outspoken critic of rampant police corruption in NYC in the 1890's. Charles Corey Taber and his brother Henry Morehouse Taber, headed the cotton brokerage firm of C. C. and H. M. Taber. They also amassed large amounts of Manhattan real estate; and owned and operated steamers like the propeller-driven Vicksburg and the side-wheeler City of Providence. Additionally, they operated the Utica Cotton Company and its mills, of which Henry M. Taber was president. Henry L.
