The 1899-S $5 Gold Liberty is a distinguished coin from the Liberty Head Half Eagle series (1839-1908), minted at the San Francisco Mint. Designed by Christian Gobrecht, it features a left-facing Lady Liberty on the obverse, with a coronet inscribed LIBERTY and surrounded by thirteen stars, while the reverse displays a heraldic eagle clutching an olive branch and arrows, topped by the motto IN GOD WE TRUST.
