Amethyst geode half with a druzy lined cavity of purple quartz crystals inside a tan and rust colored outer rind. Measures about 4 inches across; the ruler in the photos is the better guide. Crystal color is a light to medium lavender rather than the deep grape purple of top Uruguayan material, with the strongest color in the larger points along the upper wall of the cavity. Amethyst is simply quartz that has taken purple color from trace iron and natural radiation, and the crystals grow inward from the walls of a gas pocket in volcanic rock, which is why the outside is rough and dull while the inside is faceted and bright. The cut face is unpolished and the specimen sits stable on its flat underside. No chips to the crystal points are visible, and nothing in the photos suggests dyeing or heat treatment. Sold as-is. Photos are the most accurate description of this lot. Written descriptions are a guide only and may contain errors. Please review all photos before bidding.
