Native American Stone Artifacts - Axes, Arrowheads

Impressive group of 23 Native American stone artifacts and tools, including large polished stone celts and axe heads, a grooved stone axe, a carved stone pipe, projectile points, spearheads, arrowheads, and other worked stone implements. The group features a variety of forms, sizes, and stone materials, including finely shaped and polished examples, chipped flint and chert points, a distinctive ribbed double-ended stone object, and a small pierced stone pendant. Of particular interest are several larger ground-stone implements bearing handwritten historical find-location markings, including Cass County, Shelby County, Pike County, and Brown County, Illinois, along with an example marked "MO River." Additional pieces retain handwritten identification numbers and other collector's notations, suggesting the group was assembled and documented by a previous collector. The smaller artifacts include stemmed, notched, and leaf-shaped projectile points, along with several unusually shaped pieces displaying careful flaking and worked edges. The larger celts and axes exhibit rounded contours, polished surfaces, and forms traditionally associated with Native American woodworking and other utilitarian activities. Such stone artifact types are associated with prehistoric Indigenous cultures of North America, particularly the Archaic and Woodland periods, although the exact age and cultural attribution of individual pieces have not been established. An appealing and diverse group for collectors of Native American artifacts, prehistoric tools, archaeology, and Midwestern regional history. The group is offered as found, with original collector markings preserved. Condition varies, with age-related surface wear, patination, mineral deposits, edge chips, and irregularities.
