Title: Venetian Canal with Gondolas Between Sunlit Palazzi Technique: Oil on canvas Measures: 18 x 21 inches (45.7 x 53.3 cm) Year: Undated Condition: Appears in generally good visual condition based on the photographs supplied, with warm, rich coloration and thick, textured palette-knife and brushwork throughout the buildings, water, and clouds. No significant paint losses or tears are apparent in the available images. Minor surface irregularities, light handling marks, and age-related wear may be present. Presented in a wide, deeply carved gilt frame with repeating sculpted scroll and rosette ornament, showing variations in the gilded finish and darker toning within the recesses. Not examined out of the frame. Condition is described from the photographs supplied. Please review all photographs carefully, as they form an integral part of the condition description. Provenance: Private Collection Visual Description: A sunlit Venetian scene in horizontal format, looking down a narrow canal that recedes between two rows of tall, weathered palazzi toward a pale building and an opening of bright water in the distance. The facades on both sides are rendered in warm terracotta, crimson, rose, coral, and ochre, punctuated by rows of dark blue and violet windows, with terracotta roofs catching the light against the sky. Patches of green foliage spill from balconies and courtyards at left and right. In the foreground, two gondolas with dark hulls and bright pink, white, and violet interiors are moored on opposite sides of the canal, their curving forms framing the view. The water, painted in horizontal strokes of turquoise, cobalt, cream, and golden yellow, reflects the colors of the buildings and the light from above. The sky is a soft wash of pale aqua and blue-gray, with two billowing clouds tinged in apricot, salmon, and cream drifting over the canal. The thick, broken application of paint, the warm luminous palette, and the focus on light, water, and atmosphere reflect the visual language of Impressionist city painting. The lower right bears a painted inscription reading "Claude Monet." This composition reflects stylistic elements commonly associated with major figures in modern and contemporary art.
