vintage anthropomorphic baker pig cookie jar, originally manufactured in Japan during the mid-20th century (circa 1950s–1960s). This highly collectible, kitschy mid-century kitchen piece features a jovial, round white pig character eating a yellow-and-pink glazed donut. He is dressed up for the kitchen in a white chef's hat, a red bow tie, and large bulbous blue-and-white plaid trousers detailed with an embossed front pocket, belt loops, and a black belt with a yellow buckle. He is depicted holding a spatula or spatula-shaped baking tool in his right hand. The upper torso and head of the character serve as the removable lid. Turning the jar over typically reveals a simple underglaze "JAPAN" stamp on the unglazed base rim.
