A book collection covering great ideas and philosophy, community and spiritual practice, and creative writing by young authors. Overall fair to good used condition, with condition varying by book. Lot includes: 1. The Great Thoughts compiled by George Seldes, with a foreword by Henry Steele Commager. Ballantine Books, 1985; ISBN 0-345-29887-X / 9780345298874. This substantial reference anthology collects influential ideas and quotations from thinkers spanning ancient Greece through modern America. Entries are arranged alphabetically by thinker and indexed by subject, covering philosophy, politics, religion, liberty, society, psychology, love and other major themes. Good condition with moderate shelf/reading wear, rubbing and edge/corner wear, age-toning, and handwriting/numbers on an introductory page; the binding is intact. 2. Calling the Circle: The First and Future Culture by Christina Baldwin, Swan-Raven & Company, 1994; ISBN 0-9632310-8-1 / 9780963231086, 257 pages. Baldwin explores the ancient practice of gathering in circles as a framework for communication, shared responsibility, decision-making, community building and spiritual connection. The book discusses rotating leadership, shared responsibility and attention to spirit, with applications to everyday groups and organizations. Fair condition with cover rubbing, scratches, creasing, peeling and edge/corner wear, and bending and wear around the spine; however, retains original plastic wrap. The pages show discoloration/soiling along the edges and some waviness. 3. Icarus Rising, edited by Michael A. Sui, M.S. Press. Copyright 1999–2000, The Authors. This is a locally produced literary collection from Sherwood High School in Sandy Spring, Maryland. According to the photographed preface, graduating students contributed writing addressing subjects such as existentialism, religion, the meaning of life, beliefs, love, values, joys, sorrows and hopes for the future. The pictured title page contains a large handwritten inscription/signature. Good used condition overall, with light-to-moderate cover wear, small marks, edge/corner wear and minor bending. The title page has a prominent handwritten inscription, but unlikely an author signature. The colorful bookmark shows additional edge and surface wear.
