C-21645

Quarter-sawn oak Arts and Crafts bedroom commode designed to conceal a removable ceramic or metal chamber pot beneath a hinged lift-top seat. The case features clean rectilinear construction with molded top edges, paneled sides, and tapered legs terminating in block feet, reflecting the restrained design principles of the Arts and Crafts movement. Prior to widespread indoor plumbing, pieces such as this were commonly placed in bedrooms to provide a discreet and practical nighttime convenience. Chamber pot is not included.

Shows light to moderate age-related wear consistent with use. Finish exhibits scattered surface scratches, minor abrasions, edge wear, and areas of finish loss, particularly along the top edges and lid. Interior shows expected wear from age and use. Hinged lid operates smoothly and remains structurally sound. Overall presents well with an attractive warm oak patina.

17” W x 17” D x 21.5” H
