This Store Display is believed to be the only known complete 1962–1963 Mattel Barbie Master Floor Assortment still in existence. Created to establish a permanent Barbie Fashion Department within a retail store, this extraordinary display combined storage, merchandising and dramatic point-of-purchase presentation. It allowed customers to browse Barbie, Ken and Midge dolls, fashions, Pak accessories and gift sets in one dedicated shopping area. Measuring 55 inches wide, 28 inches deep and 72 inches high, the Master Floor Assortment was a substantial commercial fixture—not a temporary cardboard promotion. Mattel identified it as Master Floor Assortment No. 865. . The assortment represented a major investment for a retailer during the early 1960s. Mattel’s merchandising literature described a display stocked with dolls, fashions, accessories and gift sets valued at more than $1,300—an extraordinary commitment at the time. The surviving display contains approximately 207 original Barbie items, including six boxed swimsuit dolls, 13 dressed-box dolls, Never Removed From Box fashions, Never Removed From Package accessories and three gift sets.
