A three-tier cantilevered sewing box, attributed to Strommen Bruk Hamar, Norway. This accordion-style storage unit is constructed from stained hardwood with a warm finish and prominent wood grain. It features a sturdy central vertical handle secured with a through-tenon joint. The box opens via a series of articulated wooden bars and metal fasteners, allowing the four upper compartments to swing outwards to reveal the full contents of the three levels. The two top-level compartments are fitted with hinged lids, each featuring a square, pyramidal wooden knob. The box is extensively stocked with an assortment of haberdashery items, including numerous spools of thread in various colours and brands, a circular needle case, thimbles, dressmaking scissors, measuring tape, buttons, and embroidery silks. Dimensions (measured against a tape measure): W approx. 42.5 cm x H approx. 35 cm. Condition: The item is in good structural condition with the cantilever mechanism in full working order. The wooden surfaces show light wear, including minor scuffs, shallow scratches, and surface dust consistent with age and domestic use.
